Retreat to Syracuse

leave a comment »

On Sunday I’ll be leaving at 9 a.m. heading to Syracuse, MA with a group of youngsters (xD) from my church, Mary Magdalene. I’m expecting a lot of happy-go-lucky type stuff to go down, we will be helping the community :D. It’s at a college campus that should be fun and we get a day to explore on our own. I don’t have much to say yet because obviously nothing has happened yet haha but I will be going shopping tomorrow so that I don’t look like a homeless person with my lacking wardrobe. These damn American kids and their ungratefulness! >.>

What I Want

leave a comment »

I’ve changed in this past year. I had wanted a miniture potbelly pig for such a long time and now I can only imagine myself with a German Great Dane – blue of course – all big and serious and goofy at the same time. It’s just so adorable.

That’s the kind of cute I’m talking about :D. I’m a city girl right? What I’ve always wanted to do is walk down any city street – well not really any, a posh any city street haha – with a really unique breed of animal. One that is affectionate athletic simple in needs and tranquil. Great Dane should have been my first choice! Do pigs oink? D:

I read this excerpt from a website offering Great Dane breaders:

|The Great Dane is a gentle giant. Dignified, kind, sweet and affectionate, it is playful and patient with children. It loves everyone and needs to be around people. The Great Dane does not bark much and only becomes aggressive when the circumstances require it. A steady dog, responsible and dependable. Brave and loyal, it is a good watchdog. Because of his giant size, the Great Dane should be thoroughly obedience trained when young so it will be manageable when fully grown. Teach this giant dog not to lean against people, especially children. The objective in training this dog is to achieve a pack leader status. It is a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in their pack. When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack. The entire pack cooperates under a single leader. Lines are clearly defined. You and all other humans MUST be higher up in the order than the dog. That is the only way your relationship can be a success. Dogs who know their place below humans in the pack order will be good with children. If you are not a firm, confident, consistent pack leader who knows how to correct the dog when he is showing signs of aggression, the dog can be dog-aggressive, especially with same sex dogs.|

The only problem for me would be the fact that I am allergic to anything with fur. ????? I’m not positive on how many dogs there are out there that are hypoallergenic. The biggest that I can hope for is that I can start taking allergy shot again to build up my immune system towards animals. I read in the book The Secret Language of Birthdays that those born on October 19th like me are extremely partial towards animals and that allergies would be unfavorable for obvious reasons. Arg! Dx What to do!?!?!

The egg in this video killed me with laughter. Around 0:45 seconds is the real moneyshot of the entire video. Laugh.

I Liked This

I’m usually the one to jump onto the internet to just research questions that pop up in my head and possibly into other browsers heads as well. I loved this especially when I was simply looking up the different ways to say ‘really’ in Korean because I’m so in love with the sound of  ‘chincha’ xD.

Here we go…

is he serious? I need advice from
Poster: beckyb Date: 7-Dec-2005
Hi, I’m an Aussie girl living in Sydney, and I’ve been together with my Korean boyfriend for 4 months. Everything seems to be going ok – he proudly introduces me to all of his friends and has sent my photo to his sister in Korea. He treats me with a great amount of respect and consideration, is very generous and in turn is grateful for all the small things I do for him (preparing him dinner occaisonally etc). Surprisingly enough, we’re actually moving in together in a month’s time.
HOWEVER, I often feel uncomfortable by the way his male friends talk about me in my presence – they constantly tell me I’m “cute”, “pretty”, that they’ve never seen a western woman who is so petite (admittedly I am very small and slim). My problem is that, at least in Western culture, it is bad form and often signals a lack of respect on the part of men who comment on the physical appearance of another friend’s girlfriend or significant other. However, Jun (my bf) seems to be happier every time one of his friends makes similiar comment.
I would like to know whether this behaviour signifies that I’m some sort of trophy western girlfriend – what are the general attitudes of Korean men toward Western girlfriends? I’d appreciate advice from anyone, although particularly from Korean men/women!

Hi beckyb,
I’ve been in Korea a bit and speak the language. But, am not Korean. (so up to you and my daggy advice)
I’m not there with you to hear the comments and get a guage of your bf’s buddies but, from an assumptive (nice, nice) position I’d say: 1. they are saying it in English (again assumed); which means (if they are all Korean) they are trying to complement and include you in the conversation. 2. in Asia in general, physical commentary is very, very common. “Hi Mr. So-and-So; ohh you looking fat. You eat well!” (yes, I’ve heard this….a million times……because my weight fluctuates like DeNiro in “Raging Bull”) It may not be personal, (in parts of Asia fat=prosperous). I’ve been to a lot of Asia Countries and took physical comments, good or bad, as conversation pieces; not personal attacks. Rest assured however, no one has every said: “what an ugly baby!” 99% of the comments tend to be flattering (even the ‘fat’ ones). And if I hear another Korean woman or man say “Moshisoooo!” or “ChinCha Yeapuda!” I’ll curdle. It is very, very common in Korean culture to compliment (each other, clothing, spouses, children) even when not required. It’s giving face (and good karma)
I am a devout pessimist but, without being there; I would give him the benefit of the doubt. You may actually be a bit disarming because you are not 6’2″ and they feel comfortable with you (therefore complementing as they would in their own culture).
but, then again……uh ooohh, pessimist side…….breaking through….skin going green……pessimism rising…..aaarrrggghhhhh!!!!
The pessemist side of me would monitor them to see how often their conversation switches to Korean (if applicable) and do they glance your way when talking……..
Like all men……men are scum.
I should know…..I’m scum…..and a man. Some just are better at holding the scum side from coming out…….like the Pope.
And I’m not the Pope so I’ve had at least 1 trophy date at one time (elementery school teacher, taken to my senior highschool prom….she was cooler than me (and raced motorcycles)). It happens, on both sides of the fence. My Korean friend here (girl) is dating a man 10 years younger than her……and not for his personality.
If you have decent ‘scum’ radar (some people do, some definitely have no clue) be wary. But, “cute” and “pretty” can be the sissy version of “damn you are hot!” or “Oooh, Shablam!!! (pumping motion add here)” Are they nerdy? This would be a good thing. Nerds attracted to you will can be sneaky shits but, more often than not will very much respect your (and your bf’s) relationship……to a point.
It might be fine to just ask him. “Hey, Do your friends see me as some sort of trophy western girlfriend?” Is it potentially insulting; yes. Would it help get it out of the way; yes. If he really cares, will he tell you the truth: possibly. Not,enough information. But, at least it gets the subject on the table for discussion (which time wasting dorks like us are probably not helpful at resolving anyway).

Ahh good stuff I’d like to marry this guy <3

EDIT: Wait no my heart belongs to my John Mayer D:

Update 07.24.09

I’ve been watching lots of dramas with my little sister since break started. WAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!!!! I didn’t mention that I got a “sorta” job! (For those who don’t know a “sorta” job is a job that isn’t really a job that doesn’t pay a lot and you have to work a lot of hours but hey at least your getting money from somewhere :D) I’m so happy I deposited my first check – of a sad $50 – into my bank account this afternoon. I feel so grown up my first job xD!!!! Well anyway this job is really an internship so it’s something I can put on a college application and all. I was sent over through the internship program to the public library near my house to serve 12 hours a week earning $100 every two week pay period. Not bad eh? Well sorry but it kinda is I get bored so quickly unless I have endless carts worth of books to sort.

Next week however I have to work 24 hours (which I hope is allowed) so that I can go on a youth retreat with my church during the first week of August. Don’t wanna be missing out on money haha. I’m kind of nervous about the retreat because the girls going in my church I heard from my sister are all kind of how do I put this rude. Ah chinchara! >.>

Speaking of college applications I’m going to college next year’s September!!! Hoorahhhh :D

I’m excited about that really, I’ve been dying to be free in my city and once I’m adult college starbucks type material I’ll get to do all that. What i heard today really made me happy – especially because I want so badly to get into Columbia University – if you’re coming from unrich parents ,such as myself, and are an A student most ivy league colleges will allow you to attend for no money at all!!! I’m happy xD. All I have to do is continue studying like I have been for the rest of the summer and pace myself so that I will do very well on the SATs so that I can get into the school of my dreams. It’s all I want God give me this T_T.

I also have a lot of other things to do for the next school year like starting my Ap Economics paper (still have not gotten that book >.>) and complete my senior folder that was due in June might I add and continue studying for Japanese so that I am up to par when I start my AP Japanese class too. It’s a lot to think about so I usually do just one at a time. The beginning of the summer I started with mostly Japanese because I enjoy it the most and I started this week working on SAT test prep – mostly the critical reading section so far – next comes the paper and senior folder and I’m all set to be a star student senior at Francis Lewis High School :D. (Sorry for the run-ons ^^’)

Update 07.14.09

What have I done the past couple days? Nothing really had my share of dreams starring John Mayer, listened to tons of music starring John Mayer, and searched youtube.com for videos starring John Mayer. It’s all in my anticipation of the release of his new album. I have to assume that the album title is Battle Studies because I haven’t watched any recent videos of him. So from his blog I can only tell that this experience of making a new record personal with his fans – his battle studies – is the name.
